Het landgoed was eigendom van een zekere Wyc Grousbeck, de eigenaar van de basketbalvereniging Boston Celtics. Grousbeck zou het landgoed met de woning van 650 vierkante meter er op, voor $3,15 miljoen in het jaar 1998 gekocht hebben, volgens de eigendomsgegevens.
Het gebied waar het huis staat, was een lievelingsgebied van de Obama’s om de zomer door te brengen. Het huis is ontworpen door de architect Brandenburger Taylor Lombardo van de staat San Francisco. Het gebouw heeft vele plaatsen om te ontspannen buiten en binnen in het gebouw. De woonkamer heeft gewelfd plafonds, stenen vuurhaard. Er zijn twee gastenvleugels, een master slaapkamer met vuurhaard, een privé zonnedeck met overzicht op een vijver. Er is een zwembad, Jacuzzi, direct toegang tot een vijver en een privé strand.
